Work Experience 11th Oct-17th Oct 2012 Project Fox
Leicester College – Bliss Brickwork

Work Experience Work Experience Work Experience

A Leicester College student Rory Doyle (18) studying Level 2 Brickwork undertook 1 weeks work experience with Bliss Brickwork at Project Fox from 11th-17th October 2012.

The work experience was arranged by Anna Cooper Employment & Skills Manager for Mace, Harmi Kandola-Basi Work Placement & Progressions Co-ordinator Leicester College and Jason Brockett Contracts Manager for Bliss Brickwork.

Mace has found that bringing students to a live construction site enhances understanding of the industry. It is a great opportunity for them to see first-hand the challenges they would face working on a construction site and giving them a taste of how a real site operates.

Work experience is the most important factor in shaping young people’s perceptions of the world of work. It helps them learn about a particular occupation, gain valuable personal skills such as independence and team work, and to understand the expectations of employers.

It is an opportunity to bring home to the students the attributes, skills and knowledge they need to succeed throughout their working lives.

Work experience provides a great opportunity to understand the links between the skills they can acquire at college and the competencies needed at work.

As an employer we have the opportunity to help shape the future workforce. Getting involved in work experience shows your company is committed to helping the community.

Ian Knight, Bliss Brickwork said “ Rory has been cleaning out cavities and in filling coring holes, pointing block work and laying a small amount of 140mm paint grade block work. He has a good attitude to work and was punctual and got on well with our operatives who he worked with”.

Bliss go from strength to strength

Despite the continuing recession, the past year has seen a significant boost to the company’s performance with the return of Mick Bliss to the day to day operations of the company he founded over 30 years ago.

With Mick’s drive and passion to be the best, the team, under his leadership have been motivated to produce the most successful twelve months for many years, both in terms of the accounts and prestigious contract awards.

Mick has clearly defined his company strategy and business plans for the long term success of the company, with a focus on selective tendering based on the criteria of contract value, location and relationship with the main contractor, which we all believe is the key to producing the all round results desired.

The team here at M. Bliss have never felt more confident that good leadership and a real sense of teamwork will continue to propel the company for the next 30 years and beyond, always remaining at the top of their profession.
